Training Classes for CGC and Therapy work
Prerequisite for all classes: Beginners Class (with proof of passing)
CGC TRAINING AND TESTING
A class designed to help you and your dog prepare for CGC certification. CGC testing will be offered on the sixth week of class.

CGC ADVANCED (CGCA)/THERAPY WORK
A class for dogs who have passed the CGC test. The class builds on skills learned in CGC and increases the difficulty level of the distractions used, as well as the level of control of the handler and their work as a team with their dog. Various situations and equipment that would be encountered by therapy dog teams are also presented. CGCA testing date/time/location are determined for each class session. Tests are held off-site.

CGC URBAN (CGCU)
The CGCU class is designed to master advanced skills for modern living that include traffic, crowds, noises, transportation and other distractions that are present in a city. In order to attend this class, you MUST have a CGC on record. Upon completion and testing, a CGCU dog will demonstrate a well-behaved dog in a public setting. The training schedule will be provided on the first night at the club and will include different training days, as well as different times and locations depending on the desired skills. The CGCU test will be held the last week of class. The day and time will be determined in class.

- At the first session please arrive 15 minutes prior to class time you registered for.
- Bring your dog, a buckle collar, leash (no retractable leads).
- Bring soft treats.
- BRING COPIES of current vaccinations and rabies certificate.
NEW STATE LAW - VACCINATION RECORD REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DOGS TAKING CLASSES.
As of January 1, 2020, the State of Iowa is now requiring that we keep copies of both the rabies certificate and DAPPV vaccination records on file for dogs taking classes in the building. Bring copies that we can keep. You will also need to bring new copies every time you start a new session. (Previously we did not keep your copies.)
ALSO NEW - ALL DOGS OVER THE AGE OF 12 WEEKS MUST HAVE A RABIES VACCINATION AND CERTIFICATE.

Independent Evaluation and Certification
The DMOTC offers its facility and advertises the testing as a public service. The Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Community Canine (CGCA) and Urban Canine (CGCU) testing is administered under the guidelines of the American
Kennel Club (AKC). Therapy Dog International (TDI) testing is administered under the guidelines
of the Therapy Dog International organization. Testing is done by independent,
certified evaluators. Tests will be announced on the website.
